A Rocky Hill beginner class fills every seat, and the free games run four days a week

The Connecticut town's autumn American mah jongg course shows zero seats left, while its drop in play stays open Tuesday through Friday.

The parks and recreation department in Rocky Hill, Connecticut lists its autumn Mah Jongg for Beginners course as having zero seats available. Per the listing, the class runs Tuesdays from 22 September to 20 October, 6 to 8pm, in the game room of the community and senior center.

The page prices the course at $36 for members and $46 for non members, names Kathryn Carle as the instructor, and says the fee includes the player's 2026 card. It describes the course as teaching the American version of the game.

The same portal lists free drop in games Tuesday through Friday, and those still show open seats. Registration in advance is required for the free sessions as well.

Prim's note: a beginner class selling out is ordinary news now. The free table beside it is the part worth noticing, because a class ends and a standing game does not. A town that runs both has built the whole ladder, not just the first rung.
