Michele Frizzell learned the game at her own mother's table in the early seventies and has been teaching it since 1990, long enough to be teaching the daughters and granddaughters of women she started with. The community knows her as Mahj Life. She teaches from Canton, Georgia, and on one of the best known mahjong channels on YouTube, and her teaching is about reading the game, not only building a hand: defensive awareness, table reading, pattern recognition.
She also teaches teachers. The Mahj Life Instructor Guild carries her method into classrooms and living rooms from Florida to Washington State, which Prim called the least visible and most durable work there is. Prim featured her on National Mahjong Day in Letter 7, and again as the season turned in Letter 26, and said it plainly: Michele is the real deal.
