For Beginners

A city parks department in Beaver Dam hands you the tiles as well as the class

A four week beginner course opens 2 October in Wisconsin, and the listing says the sets and the table mats are provided.

The City of Beaver Dam Recreation Department has a course listed as American Mah Jongg, Intro to #04, running Fridays from 2 October to 23 October 2026, 9:00 to 11:30 am, at The Watermark, 209 S. Center St., Beaver Dam, Wisconsin. The listing names Pam Flock and Toni King as the instructors.

The course description says students will learn the various "formulas" to achieve "Mah Jongg", consistent with the National Mah Jongg League, which is the American game. The listing also says, in bold on its own line, "Mah Jongg tile sets and table mats are provided."

That last line is the part worth noticing. A beginner deciding whether to try this game often runs into the cost of a set before she has played a single hand, and this class removes that decision from the front of the process. Registration runs through the recreation department.

OOTT is not affiliated with the City of Beaver Dam Recreation Department and does not sell classes or tile sets. Every detail above is as published on the course listing.
