A Sunday afternoon of tiles raises money for medically complex kids in Richmond

Better2gether and a local teaching studio host Mahjong for a Cause on September 27, and every skill level is invited.

Better2gether, a Richmond-area nonprofit that supports families of children with rare and complex medical conditions, will host Mahjong for a Cause on Sunday, September 27, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., according to 12 On Your Side. The afternoon is presented in partnership with Let's Mahj RVA, a Richmond studio that teaches American mahjong, and plays in the Atrium at The Commons, 2101 Maywill Street.

Per the report, the event includes mahjong rounds, prizes, raffles, food and drinks, and it is pitched at seasoned players and newcomers alike. Registration is required in advance through the nonprofit's online sign-up; the report does not list a ticket price.

Proceeds support Better2gether's work with families, including its Family Navigation service, which the report describes as one-on-one support for parents and caregivers. "Families navigating medical complexity often face a world of appointments, resources, decisions and challenges that can feel overwhelming," Executive Director Stephanie Becker told the station.
