American Mahjong Royalty

Bam Bird Boutique

Mahjong as lifestyle

Dallas, Texas

Elevated, a little preppy, with a Texas wink.

Bam Bird Boutique first came to Tile Envy in Letter 6 with a Deco Tile Set, pure Art Deco revival in a Lagoon and Mulberry palette, honoring the 1920s roots of American Mahjong without being literal about it. Prim called them exactly the kind of small independent operation she likes to see thriving.

In Letter 13 she took a longer look at the Dallas shop. Their sensibility is mahjong as lifestyle, elevated and a little preppy, with a Texas wink hiding in the details: the East Meets West Tortoise Shell Tile Set, hand painted acrylic on a layered tortoiseshell back; mats, one printed with art by the Dallas painter Rachel O'Connor; and a reversible silk twilly with watercolor orchids on one side and cowboy boots on the other.
