For Beginners

Two beginner sections open for fall in Newton, and the card is bought separately

JCC Greater Boston lists day and evening beginner American Mah Jongg courses starting in mid September, and tells registrants to buy the League card themselves.

JCC Greater Boston lists a beginner American Mah Jongg course meeting Tuesdays from 15 September to 20 October 2026, 9:45 to 11:45 in the morning, at the Wexler Family Lounge on Nahanton Street in Newton, Massachusetts. The listing names Amy McLoughlin as the instructor and shows registration open.

A companion evening section is listed for Wednesdays, 16 September to 21 October, in the same fall block. Both are pitched at adults starting from scratch and cover gameplay along with strategy.

The listing states that a mah jongg card is required and should be purchased through the National Mah Jongg League, so the card does not come with the class fee. It also states that attendance at the first session is required. A price is not shown on the class page.
