The Surge

The fundraiser that asks your table to keep meeting on Tuesday

The Alzheimer's Association runs Mah Jongg for Memories as a host it yourself fundraiser, and its public page shows $20,176 raised against a $250,000 goal this season.

Mah Jongg for Memories sits inside the Alzheimer's Association's Do What You Love program. Its page invites players to "do what you love and grab your friends and host a tournament or play-day fundraiser," and offers a lighter option for groups that do not want to run an event: "sign up your Regular Group to donate when you play."

The public fundraising page currently shows $20,176 raised against a $250,000 goal. The page notes the current season runs July 1 through June 30, so those totals reflect that window rather than the program's lifetime.

The same page carries a leaderboard of top fundraising events. It lists Tulsa's Mah Jongg for Memories at $37,338.74, Oasis Assisted Living Cares at $11,665.00, a Mah Jongg Tournament at Tiburon Yacht Club at $11,005.00, Mahjong for Memory at $10,610.00, and Mahjongg for Memories SEPA at $8,240.00. Per the association, the program supports research, care and support for people affected by Alzheimer's and other dementia.

Prim's opinion, not reported fact: what makes this shape travel is that it asks almost nothing new of anybody. A group that already meets on a Tuesday simply keeps meeting on that Tuesday. OOTT is not affiliated with the Alzheimer's Association and does not collect on its behalf. This is here because a good many readers already run the exact table the program was built around.
