A Barrington shop starts a monthly beginner class in the Ice House Mall

The Pepper Pot's Monday Mahjong 101 begins September 14, 2026, with sets provided and room for eight students.

The Pepper Pot, a shop in the Historic Ice House Mall at 200 Applebee Street in Barrington, Illinois, lists a beginner class called Monday Mahjong 101 that begins on September 14, 2026, according to its class page. It meets on the second Monday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon.

Per the listing, the class costs $50 per person, mahjong sets and light snacks are provided, and each session is limited to eight students with a minimum of three.

The curriculum covers identifying every tile and reading and using the current National Mah Jongg League card, which places it squarely in American mah jongg. The shop offers a waitlist form for students looking for another date.
