Bam Bird Social opens a mahjong studio in Blue Springs

A mother in law and daughter in law team now teach and seat players in eastern Jackson County, KSHB reports.

A mahjong studio called Bam Bird Social opened at the start of October in Blue Springs, Missouri, KSHB 41 reports. Co owners Deb Totten and her daughter in law, Sami Totten, offer lessons and several ways to come and play, with sets on hand for players who do not own one, according to the station.

The report describes the studio as one of just two places in the area focused on learning and playing the game. It shows the 152 tile American set and cites Yelp's report of a nearly 4,500% increase in searches for mahjong.

KSHB introduces mahjong as a centuries old Chinese tabletop game that came to America in the 1920s. Sami Totten told the station, "It is a strategy game made up of these tiles."

OOTT is not affiliated with Bam Bird Social.
