✦ Every Thursday ✦
One letter a week for American Mahjong players. The same words either way. Pick the door you want and it takes you straight there, no hunting.
The weekly letter, free, in your inbox on Thursday mornings.
Prim reads the whole letter aloud. About half an hour.
The Newsletter
Every Thursday, Prim writes to the table. Not a roundup, not a tip of the week: a proper letter, in her own voice, about the game as it is being played this season. The current card and what it is quietly rewarding. A hand worth studying. What somebody at somebody's table is arguing about. The tile sets that are testing her composure. It is free, it always has been, and it arrives whether or not you have time for it.
What lands in every issue
Every issue since the first one is in the archive, free to read, no account needed.
The Podcast
Some read the letter over coffee. Others prefer it whispered in the car. The podcast is the week's letter read aloud by Prim, start to finish, usually about half an hour depending on what the week deserved. Same strategy, same arguments, same refusal to be neutral. Begin anywhere; the season makes sense from any chair.
The three most recent episodes
Prim's grandfather played golf professionally and knew every clause of the rulebook, which is exactly why he could look at a ball stuck behind a tree and tell a grandchild that this was not a tournament. Prim asks what that permission means at a Mahjong table. Crak the Card covers the ways a hand dies, and the strange fact that you are not allowed to call your own.
Every August has a moment where you find out what you actually chose, and Prim's arrived with the whole season tipped out on the table at once. The ambitious plans did not survive. The standing Monday game nobody ever wrote on a list did. What she finds is less about discipline than about who kept showing up.
There is a scandal this week and Prim regrets to report that the guilty party is herself, because Thursday arrived without her. Five months into the card, your knowledge of it hardens into habit, and habit bends your neck downward while three living players sit across from you telling you everything. Three stale habits worth breaking at the halfway mark.
